In this blog, we will discuss the important aspects of Polymers and the kind of questions covered in JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.
From the trend of previous years, we can infer that this is an important chapter from the view-point of JEE Mains. The questions asked are generally factual and based on introductory concepts in both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. But students tend to leave this topic owing to its factual nature. This causes them to unnecessarily lose marks in relatively easier questions.
Different ways of classification of Polymers is an important topic of this chapter. Process of formation of Addition and Condensation polymers are also important. One needs to give special emphasis on formation and uses of some common polymers like Rubber (both natural and vulcanised),Polythene, Buna-N, Buna-S, Bakelite, Teflon, Nylon 66 and others. For JEE Advanced attention should be given on the types of linkages, bonds and their strength too.
For this chapter also, a thorough reading and understanding of NCERT Chemistry is a must and is more than required. Some important structures and facts need to be remembered.
